Did you know that about 90% of all world-class athletes use chiropractic care to prevent injuries and increase their performance potential? What about the fact that since 2010 all 32 NFL teams provide their players and personnel chiropractic physician services for managing and preventing injuries? Chiropractors are also found working with 90% of MLB teams, majority of NHL teams, 70% of PGA golfers, and Olympic athletes.
Chiropractic care does not just work with professional athletes they also work with high school, college athletes and the weekend warrior in all of us. More than 30 million students participate in organized sports; high school athletes experience two million injuries, 500,000 doctor visits and 30,000 hospitalizations each year.
Chiropractors help all athletes whether they are involved in football, hockey, baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, golf, racquetball, martial arts, cheerleaders, dancers, the list is very long.
In sports medicine, chiropractic care is routine and many trainers and coaches encourage it before, during and after any physical performance. Some sports are more brutal than others and injuries are more common.
A Sports Chiropractor can help with many injuries
Some injuries that can occur from sports are whiplash from hard hits, tennis elbow from forceful movements of the wrist (tennis elbow can affect a golfer, gardener, bowlers, tennis and racquetball players), rotator cuff injuries, neck pain, shoulder pain, back strains, muscle spasms and hamstring pulls. It has been found that five to 25% of all sport injuries involve groin pain. 10-11% involves ice hockey and soccer players.
In 2012, Virginia Tech had 115 football players participate in chiropractic research by providing them with a total of 1,976 osteopathic manipulative treatments over the course of two seasons. The adjustments involved the cervical, lumbar, thoracic and sacral sections of the spine. After each game, the coaches graded each player’s performance. All the players showed improved performance following pre-competition manipulative treatments.
Chiropractic care helps all athletes manage pain, improve mobility, increase strength and maintain their health. The most important thing a sports chiropractor can help with is allowing the athlete to perform at their highest level in competition. You do not have to be in pain to benefit from chiropractic care. Keeping your spine aligned can help prevent some injuries or reduce the seriousness of an injury.
